Custom Software is Too Expensive!!!
Not really true when you think about it.
Custom software for your site/business can be a bit higher than buying something that has been pre-built and sold to the masses. Honestly, if you are on a tight budget and need to get a business off the ground, you do what you have to. However, please keep this in mind when you are making this decision.
The most important feature of custom programming/software is the fact that "You" are the only one with access to the code and functions of that piece of software. Not that there is anything wrong with "Canned Software", nothing at all wrong with it, we have our own canned software that we sell, however the more people that have that code, the more you have a chance to have someone hack your information.
With custom programming, you get exactly what you want and need. With canned software, there are usually items that need to be removed or added based on your site/business needs. If you purchase or download a free piece of software, if you can modify it, that will save you money but what will it cost you in time? Of course you can hire out to have someone reprogram it for you, but there again, the time can be a bit high depending on the programmer and the software.
In the end, the savings is not much, if anything at all.
